When travelling south from Egypt to Sudan, we crossed the Aswan Dam on this old barge. It was a two day voyage where we simply slept on deck. I was till wearing Egyptian clothes and the locals love to join in singing. Most of these men did not understand the English words, but they sure resonated to the bold, brave tone of an old sea shanty ..
“Oh bend your backs and row me lads and take me to the whale, tonight we sing and dance and tomorrow night we sail … no prouder me we’ll be, to show them all we captured the monster from the sea .. Li li li li , li la li la li”
